Kayaking!!

I wanted to do something special over Thanksgiving. So I decided to go kayaking in Topock Gorge! I have been wanting to do this for about 20 years. A group of us were going to go about 20 years ago and never did. Then I decided I was too fat and never went.

So I decided I was thin enough to go now and what the heck lets go do it! The outfitter that I am going through is called WACKO! No kidding. I hope they aren't really wacko. (It stands for Western Arizona Canoe and Kayak Outfitters) It really is very affordable. They pick you up in the morning at your hotel and drop you off at the top of Topock Gorge on the Colorado River (Near Lake Havasu).
It's flat water and you paddle for the day, about 8 miles, through a wild life refuge. Then they pick you up at the end of the day and take you back to the hotel. I hope I can do 8 miles in a day. Of course, I pretty much half too.
Amy, a friend from work, is going to come with me. I'll let you all know how it goes!!

  1. Do you wear waterproof gear in case the kayak tips over? ...and who rescues you????? Your adventures are so much fun to read. I think you could publish a book titled, The Adventures of Suzanne--Wonder Woman. Have a great time on the trip.

  2. Ok curious - does the water sort of move you down the river so you don't REALLY have to paddle 8 miles? I went on a canoeing expedition once that turned out badly because I did not have idea how much actual work was involved. Of course they actually expected us to 'port' our canoe's from one body of water to another, which was crazy ridiculous hard. My friend and I just spent a lot of time time laughing and crying through the woods with an unwieldy canoe over our heads that we could barely lift, so we dragged, kicked and shoved it through the forest. Good memories though!

  4. Hi! I'm Janet Gerla's sister-in-law and I took the entire Gerla clan on a kayak trip with Wacko several years ago (we have a condo in Havasu) and Wacko is absolutely the BEST!!!! You will have so much fun...and it is little work because there is just enough downstream current to keep you going at a nice pace with little or no effort.... Enjoy!!! Betty Gerla

  7. Betty beat me to this :-) It was SO much fun! Mary was 4, David 8, Becky 11, Paul 14, Andy 17 and Tim 19. We were visiting Phil's parents and sister, Betty, and Betty treated us to this kayak trip. We still talk about it and would go back in a heartbeat. Suzanne, when my kids are grown I want to come visit you and have fun! Phil doesn't like adventure much LOL. He can take care of the animals.

  8. Hm, now we are trying to figure out what year that was - I might have the kids' ages off a bit and I'm not certain that Andy was even there... He might have been on his mission. But I'll have to look it up!
